How to Choose the Right Tumbler for Laser Engraving

Why Tumbler Choice Matters for Engraving

The tumbler you choose directly affects how the engraving looks. Different coatings, materials, and colors produce dramatically different results under the laser. Understanding these differences helps you pick a tumbler that will look its best after engraving.

Powder-Coated Stainless Steel

This is the most popular choice for laser engraving. The laser removes the colored powder coating to reveal the shiny stainless steel beneath, creating a high-contrast, professional look. Darker colors like black, navy, and forest green produce the most striking contrast.

Size Guide

The most popular sizes are 20oz skinny tumblers for everyday use, 30oz tumblers for people who want maximum capacity, and 12oz wine tumblers for a more compact option. For corporate orders, 20oz is the most versatile choice because it works for both hot and cold drinks.

Can You Bring Your Own Tumbler?

Yes. We can engrave most powder-coated stainless steel tumblers you bring in, including Yeti, Stanley, Hydro Flask, and similar brands. The key requirement is that the tumbler has a powder coating or paint layer for the laser to remove. Plain stainless steel without coating produces a more subtle mark.

What About Ceramic and Plastic?

Ceramic mugs can be engraved but the result is more subtle than stainless steel. Plastic tumblers generally do not engrave well and are not recommended. For the best results, stick with powder-coated stainless steel.
